AFFCU Awards $20,000 In COVID-19 Member Support Grant

Press Release – June 22, 2020

The past several months have been a struggle for many throughout our community. Individuals and families have had to grapple with unexpected hardships resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. Despite the many challenges, Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union has remained steadfast in helping their 10,000+ members persevere through these difficult times.

Matthew Piazza, President & CEO at AFFCU stated, “AFFCU was poised to serve its members during the challenging times of economic uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. The team here at AFFCU has remained strong and nimble, quickly adapting to changes while remaining committed to serving our members and helping to ensure their financial well-being.”

“I am proud to say that over the past several weeks our team has worked with our members to provide $500,000 in emergency hardship loans, processed over 560 free skip-a-pay requests, and assisted members with 163 loan adjustments,” stated Mr. Piazza

In addition to its member support, the credit union recently awarded a total of $20,000 through its Member Support Grant. 100 recipients were selected and recently awarded $200 each in no obligation funds.

“The response was eye-opening,” stated Mr. Piazza. He added, “Over 500 members applied for this grant. While we expected a fair level of interest and an opportunity to help some of our members, the response reconfirmed the impact that we can have on our members and the community we serve. As a member-owned cooperative, our purpose and focus is on supporting our members’ financial well-being. We will continue to find ways to fulfill our mission to enrich our members’ lives through consistent, exceptional member experiences. This pandemic has shown how we at AFFCU embody the “people helping people” motto and act first to find ways to support our members over anything else.
