Overdraft Protection Options

Our standard overdraft practices include authorization of payment for checks, bill payments and other transactions made using your checking account number. At your request, we will also extend overdraft protections to your ATM and debit card transactions.

The following overdraft protection options are available. Choose to protect yourself with just one or a combination of all three.

Overdraft Line-of-Credit

Uses an open line-of-credit to cover your overdraft costs

  • Can be tied to your checking account for overdraft protection
  • No fees per overdraft beyond interest accrued on Line-of-Credit balances

Overdraft Transfer

Connects to your savings or money market accounts

  • Money automatically transfers should you not have the funds available in your checking account
  • Saves expense of returned check or late fees from third parties

Courtesy Pay (MAC)

Covers inadvertent overdrafts on your checking account by paying transactions such as checks and debit card purchases up to your courtesy pay overdraft limit.

  • Each overdraft up to the limit incurs a fee
  • Saves expense of returned check or late fees from third parties
  • Overdrawing your account beyond the limit may cause you to incur additional fees.

What You Need to Know About Overdrafts and Overdraft Fees

An overdraft occurs when you do not have enough money in your account(s) to cover a transaction, but we pay it anyway. We can cover your overdrafts in two different ways.

  1. We have standard overdraft practices that come with your account.
  2. We also offer other overdraft protection plans, such as a link to a savings account or an overdraft line-of-credit*, which may be less expensive than our standard overdraft practices. To learn more, ask us about these plans.

This notice explains our standard overdraft practices.

What are the standard overdraft practices that come with my account?

We do authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions:

  • Checks and other transactions made using your checking account number
  • Automatic bill payments

We do not authorize and pay overdrafts for the following types of transactions unless you ask us to (see below):

  • ATM transactions
  • Everyday debit card transactions

We pay overdrafts at our discretion, which means we do not guarantee that we will always authorize and pay any type of transaction. If we do not authorize and pay an overdraft, your transaction will be declined.

What fees will I be charged if Atlantic Financial FCU pays my overdraft?

Under our standard overdraft practices:

  • If you overdraw your account we will charge you a fee of $25.00 each time we pay an overdraft.
  • There is no limit on the number of total fees we can charge you for overdrawing your account(s).
