Become a Member

As a not-for-profit institution, you as a member and partial credit union owner are at the center of everything we do. Rather than pocket profits, they're returned to you in the form of higher rates on deposits, lower rates on loans, and convenient, budget-friendly account management tools. When excess profits exist at year-end, a bonus dividend is declared and deposited into members' accounts.

In addition, all AFFCU deposits are insured by the strongest insurance fund backed by the federal government (NCUSIF - National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund).

Credit Unions and banks offer the same types of consumer products and services, but that is the only similarity between them. Here are the differences:

Joining AFFCU

Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union (AFFCU) serves the full-time, part-time, retired employees, and volunteers (where applicable) of approved companies or organizations within our charter. In addition, family members — defined as spouses, children, sisters, brothers, grandparents, step-relatives, and adoptive children — of people employed or volunteering at these places are also eligible to join AFFCU. Partners living within the same household sharing in the economic responsibilities of that household are also eligible to join. And once you become a member, you're a member for life, regardless of job or life changes.*

Convenient Ways To Join

Becoming a member of AFFCU is easy! You must first open a Primary Share Savings Account with at least $5, which solidifies your lifetime membership with AFFCU*. Once you've opened your Primary Share Savings account, you are officially a member with access to all of the other member benefits available. All applications are subject to our verification of eligibility.

*As long as membership requirements are met ($5 balance is maintained in the primary share account, and loan payments are current).

Visit our Hunt Valley Branch and a Member Service Representative will assist you through the membership process.

Apply By Mail

Print and complete the AFFCU membership application. Be sure to sign it, and send completed application, along with:

  • A check or money order for at least $5.00 (made payable to Atlantic Financial Federal Credit Union)
  • A copy of your valid picture ID (driver's license or state ID)
  • Verification of employment (copy of work badge, business card, paystub, etc.)

Employer Workplace Visit & Sign-Ups

If your company is listed as part of Atlantic Financial FCU field of membership, ask your benefits department or your company's owner to invite us to your place of employment for a credit union sign-up. An Atlantic Financial FCU representative will come to your work site to tell you about the credit union, answer your questions and complete the forms for you to join.

If you join through a work on-site visit, you will need to provide a valid driver's license or state identification card with the correct address and check, cash or money order for $5. Or if you open a checking account with direct deposit of your net pay, Atlantic Financial FCU will provide the initial $5 deposit.
